Jacqui McBurnie
Senior Programme Manager, NHS England,
Founder, NHS England Menopause Network
Jacqui McBurnie is a highly respected nurse and national leader in developing menopause support. Jacqui founded and chaired the NHS England Menopause Network, leading the network from 2018. She pressed for and drafted the first NHSE Menopause Policy, engaging with national unions, thought leaders and clinical experts to embed clinical integrity alongside the voices of network members. The NHS England Menopause Network soon grew in size and is now an England wide body, pressing for workplace recognition and support for menopause. Jacqui was also successful in securing Menopause specific sickness reporting (NHS) and an additional clinically based service for women in NHS England (in addition to the existing Occupational Health offer).
Jacqui has just completed her role as the Menopause Lead for the North East and North Cumbria system, where she established workplace menopause clinics and helped shape strategic support across the region. During this role she developed a specific Northeast menopause policy, completed a system wide Equality Impact Assessment to accompany the policy and brought forward the voices of women across the region.
Nationally, she continues to press for culture change and has advised the Health and Social Care Select Committee on the needs of women experiencing symptoms of menopause in the workplace (NHS) and is actively engaged in research to identify the needs of women in order to continue in work, thrive in work and optimise their opportunities
